I love it when Lowe’s sends out those coupons for free paint. Not only because it’s, well, free and I’m a little (ahem) frugal. Ok, I’m a lot frugal. But also, because sometimes when I see a paint sample, rather than just a swatch, it inspires me to paint something in particular. Like this cabinet. I loved this shade of blue instantly and couldn’t wait to use it in my bedroom makeover. I gave our bedroom a few updates a couple of months ago and I’m just now getting around to some other things on the list.
This cabinet used to be in the bathroom until I replaced it with a little green cabinet that I also painted. With another free sample of paint from Lowe’s. I told you, I’m all about the free paint. I just wasn’t sure what to do with this thing until now. Since I painted two of the bedroom walls white I thought this blue would look really rich and crisp against the wall. I love the contrast of a really deep paint color next to a white wall. Plus, using this piece in the bedroom adds a small amount of storage. Not much, but every little bit helps.
I painted the cabinet with two coats of Kilz latex primer and then painted it with two coats of Valspar Perfect Storm, sanding between coats. Then I spray painted the handle with Valspar Metallic Gold spray paint.
Instead of buying new accessories I shopped my house for items to style it with. Sometimes just moving things around and mixing them up can make them feel new. And I had to add a touch of fall with those pretty yellow leaves that I clipped from the yard. Well, technically they’re from the neighbor’s yard. I’m sure they didn’t mind :)
I’m really happy with the way this turned out and I’m so glad I kept it. It adds a really nice touch to the bedroom without taking up a lot of space. Next up is to finish painting the other walls. My plan is to get that finished in the next few days. I’ll be doing my Christmas decorating next week and this year I’m going to put a small tree in our bedroom! So excited! I normally decorate right after Thanksgiving but I’m going to be really busy that week. Which is fine, that just gives us more time to enjoy it!
