A Bathroom Renovation

A Bathroom Renovation

Bathroom with Grey and White Tile

I am beyond excited to be able to say our downstairs bathroom renovation is finally finished! Honestly though, except for a few finishing touches, it’s been finished for a while. But for some reason ( that I couldn’t figure out until now ) I had been putting off writing about it. I had to think about why I wasn’t rushing to share with you guys our awesome new bathroom. Bathroom that I love. That I have waited for, for so long. Then it finally hit me. It’s because I wanted to be sure to find the right words to say. Not about our bathroom, but about these two guys. These two guys that made it happen.

Brothers

And how truly awesome I know they are.

And how selfless they are.

And that they have great big gigantic hearts.

And that I don’t take for granted their skill, ability, or one single moment that they spent working on this bathroom. And they did work hard.

And that they learned the power of hard work and getting things done from their Dad.

And the power of pulling together for family from their Mom.

And that together, there is nothing they can’t do.

These guys are brothers in the truest sense of the word.

I love them both to pieces and I’m thankful from the bottom of my heart.

Not only did they do ALL the work but they are responsible for the design of the floor and shower too.

Okay, I’m finished with all the sappy stuff. Let’s get to the Before & Afters!! This bathroom was in a sad, sad state. I mean, check out that super-fly, hunter green, faux marble vinyl. And yes, that is a hole RIGHT in front of the shower. A hole! Oh, and I’m pretty sure that toilet was the original from when the house was built in the 30s. Well, maybe I’m exaggerating…but not by much.

Here she is now. Basically the whole thing was gutted and redone. New sink, new toilet and fresh paint. And my favorite thing about this bathroom? All the new tile! Gorgeous grey and white tile, all from Lowe’s. The shelf and the towel bar are DIYs. I’ll be back later with a resource guide but for now here are some photos of the finished product.

The concept behind this renovation was to go light and bright and definitely more modern. I didn’t want to lose the feel of the character though since this is an old home, so we kept the original, curvy mirror and I mixed in some texture with the worn wood shelf and towel bar. Lately I just can’t get enough of mixing shiny new things with raw rugged materials. I think it ended up having a little bit of an eclectic feel. I’m sure I will add some wall art at some point and the room will probably evolve over time. Most of the rooms in our home are that way, changing and growing and never really being totally finished. But that’s the fun in decorating, right?

Thanks so much for reading and following along. Big hugs and high fives!!
