So y’all should know by now that I move at the speed of molasses on some of these remodel projects. I tend to get bogged down when I think about everything I want to do. But I’m learning how to work around that. I finally figured out that stepping away from it, whatever that “it” is, and focusing on something else for a while helps. I’m also learning that it’s okay for things to happen in stages. As long as I keep moving and making some kind of progress then I can stay motivated.
Why do I feel like I’m talking about more than home projects right now? I did just celebrate my 40th birthday and don’t they say with age comes wisdom? Hmmmm…
The last update I showed you on the laundry room was right after I painted it a dark, moody blue. It turned out to be way too dark for that room. I kept telling myself that once I painted the cabinets it would look better. But I painted the cabinets and I still hated it.
So I painted it again. This time, much lighter. Ahhh…so much better, right? With only one small window the dark blue was just too heavy.
Also, I just got this etagere from Joss & Main. I’ve always loved this style but couldn’t find it in my price range. I had pretty much just given up and was looking at some other styles when I came across this one. It was almost $150 less than the most inexpensive one I had found. It inspired me to get back to work in here!
I found the mirror at Kirkland’s. I’m loving the mixed metals. I think using more than one metallic looks a little more modern. I actually bought two of these mirrors with the original plan of using them in our master bathroom. But they turned out to be too small for that space. It’s a little small in here but I’m thinking about using sconces on either side which will fill out that area above the sink.
Now I just have to finish stripping the paint off the old doors that we’re going to use to hide the washer and dryer. That’s the last big project for this room. I have a few rugs picked out but just can’t decide if I want to add more color or go more subtle. We also need to replace the “boob” light with a cool light fixture.
I’ve got my eye on this one from World Market. I’m just waiting for it to go on sale.
I love how metallic gold adds so much warmth to grey. I’m looking forward to styling those shelves!
There are still a lot of little things to do in here. Like painting the kick plates on the cabinets. Somehow I just forgot. How does that happen? So much for that “wisdom with age” thing. Still, I think this might be my favorite room in the house right now.
