Hey guys! Moving right along here on the One Room Challenge. Well it seems that way right now but I’m sure I’ll be losing my mind trying to put it all together at the last minute. Anyway, I don’t really have any pretty pictures to share but I have made some progress and I can see it all coming together.
First, my DIY headboard is almost finished. And I’m so proud of myself for cutting those corners out without losing any fingers. I’ll spare you the details on how I made it. The last thing the world needs is another tutorial on a DIY headboard. It’s just your basic plywood, foam and fabric. But I will say, I had a hard time trying to figure out how to wrap the fabric around those curves. It turns out you have to cut the fabric into tabs along the curve in order to make it move and fit without wrinkles. But, oh my gosh, be careful not to cut it too close or it will show on the top of the headboard.
I also painted the built-in window seat. It’s called Designer White by Clark + Kensington. I’m going to paint the room the same color. Since I’m planning on bringing in so much color with textiles I wanted to keep the walls a crisp white. The bench still needs another coat of paint and of course lots of fluffy pillows.
I decided I wanted to bring some more blue into the room with a rug. I’m really into this vintage inspired, color saturated look so I ordered this rug from Overstock.com.
I’m planning on layering in a lot more blue with pillows. I was looking for some blue velvet fabric that I could use to make some pillows when I came across this awesome buy at Target. These velvet pillow covers were only $8.99 each and they come in lots of colors. It was hard not to buy them all. That’s one less thing I’ll have to DIY.
I also picked up this artwork at Homegoods. I’m thinking it will look great hanging over the desk. Oh, and thanks to all of you that voted on Facebook and Instagram on which knobs I should use on the desk! I haven’t changed them yet but I did make a decision.
I also have this nightstand that I found at thrift store. When I bought it I was planning on painting it but I actually kind of love it the way it is. I think I might just give it a good cleaning and maybe spray paint the hardware.
Don’t forget to check out all the other participants’ progress in the One Room Challenge. You’ll be blown away by the creativity!!
