Simple Summer Sangria

How’s your summer going so far? I know, technically it isn’t summer yet but it feels like it here in the south and I’ve been spending a lot more time outdoors since we got the chickens. You might remember a couple of months ago I told you about how we decided to get some chickens. I’m a first time chick Mom, and man, it has been a huge learning experience. It’s a lot of work but it’s so much fun.

Everyday I look forward to the time I get to spend with them, letting them roam outside the coop. But it is June which means it’s hot and it doesn’t take being out long to get thirsty.

We’ve had a bottle of Francis Coppola sparkling wine in the back of the refrigerator for over a year. We never drank it because we don’t like bubbles in our wine. But I didn’t want to give it away because it was a gift. So it just sat there until it hit me. Sangria!

It was so simple since I already had everything I needed. It doesn’t require any exotic fruits and you can pick up a good lemonade at any grocery store. I had just been to Aldi where I got the yummiest Watermelon Cucumber Lemonade. So I mixed up this pretty and refreshing sangria in just minutes.

  • One bottle of sparking wine or champagne
  • 2 cups watermelon cucumber lemonade
  • 1 cup chopped peaches
  • 1 cup chopped cantaloupe
  • 1 cup sliced strawberries
  • 1 sliced cucumber

  • Pour the whole bottle of sparking wine into a pitcher.
  • Add two cups of the juice.
  • Chop and add the fruit.
  • Stir and pour over ice.
  • Garnish with a cucumber slice.
  • Enjoy!

This sangria is really light and refreshing. It’s low in alcohol but big on fruity flavors without being overly sweet. You could kick it up a notch by adding 1/4 cup of vodka or rum. I also think it would taste just as good by eliminating the alcohol all together and replacing it with tonic water or Sprite.

And it’s just so pretty! It’s the perfect cocktail to serve at a summer brunch or a bridal shower.¬†I’m just glad I found a way to enjoy this gift.
