When we bought this house I knew the bathrooms would have to be updated. Luckily, we had enough in the budget that we didn’t have to wait too long to get started on the floors. The old floors were vinyl and it was bubbling up in some areas. And it was driving me crazy.
This is the old floor in the master bathroom.
And this is the new floor.
Huge. Difference. My plan for the cabinets is to paint them charcoal grey. And I’m thinking about wallpaper over the vanity. Still undecided on that one but I’m seeing a lot of gorgeous options in removable wallpaper lately. I hate scraping wallpaper. Which brings me to the laundry room.
Check out that border. Luckily this was the only wallpaper in the house. This is what it looked like when we moved in. Yeah…there was a whole lot going on in there. It’s actually a laundry room / half bath which serves as the guest bathroom when people are over.
This is what it looks like in progress.
And this is the other side of the room.
Since there’s an inset for the washer and dryer we plan to DIY some doors to close off that space. The drywall was unfinished so Bill closed it in with some cedar and I’m going to to finish it with some stain. And I’m thinking painting the cabinets the same white as the built-in desk in the kitchen will look pretty awesome against the moody blue wall color.
This is the same tile we used in our bathroom. But since I wanted it to be a little different I went with a herringbone pattern. And I STRESSED over whether or not to do that. I mean, we won’t be changing this for a long time. But when I came home and saw it installed I knew I made the right decision. I’m kind of seriously in love with it.
And I’m ALWAYS amazed at the difference grout makes.
I can’t totally call this one a DIY. Although Bill did do all the demo, installed the baseboards, moved the toilets and washer and dryer… I could go on and on. That guy never stops.
But we hired someone to install the tile. B & B Tile did the installation and we are so happy with their work. Not only that, but they showed up when they said they would and were very professional. That alone speaks volumes about the kind of company they are. If you live anywhere near Chattanooga and you want some tile work done, this is who you need to call.
The tile and grout are from Lowe’s and I literally picked them out days before they showed up to install it. I had my mind set on something else but when I went to Lowe’s to get it I saw this and totally changed my plan.
Feels good to have this checked off the list.
